I think I’ve tried almost every protein powder and bar in existence for the last 25 years. Nowadays I’ve switched to mostly plant-based protein supplements and here are some of my favorites.
No Cow Protein Bars
Lemon Meringue Pie, 22g Plant Based Vegan Protein, Keto Friendly, Low Sugar, Low Carb, Low Calorie, Gluten Free, Naturally Sweetened, Dairy Free, Non GMO, Kosher, 12 Pack
These look nothing like lemon meringue bars and have a smidgen of lemon flavor but they’re packed with 20g of protein and 16g of fiber so if you’re in need of protein you half cyborg and have no need for food that tastes good, this is it for you!
The sampler pack includes these flavors: Chunky Peanut Butter, Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Lemon Meringue Pie, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Birthday Cake, Chocolate Glazed Donut, Sticky Cinnamon Roll, Blueberry Cobbler, Vanilla Caramel, Carrot Cake, Mint Cacao Chip
The bars with chocolate have the strongest flavors and the rest are on the subtle side.
CLIF BUILDER’S Protein Bar
Crunchy Peanut Butter, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Chocolate Mint, Cookies and Cream (Variety Pack, 12 Count)
I like opening the wrapper and get fooled into thinking I’m about to take a bite into a candy bar or a chocolate coated granola bar. These are one of the bars I grab midday when I just want a Whatchamacallit but can’t have any.
SimplyProtein Bar, Peanut Butter Chocolate, Pack of 15, Gluten Free, Non GMO, Vegan
Yuuummm who doesn’t like soy crisps, peanut butter and sweet sweet natural syrup of agave and brown rice? What, you? Not after you try these delicious bars! It’s almost like having a rice krispie treat without at a fraction of the carbs!
Pegan® Protein Bar (Chocolate Lava) 12 Bars (20g Organic Plant Protein) (1 Net Carb 1g Sugar)
If you wanna eat like a fancy ass swole tropical bird with lots of $$ and an AARP membership backpacking through the humid parts of South America for a year, lemme intro you to this protein bar. Made with the exotic seeds of the sacha inchi plant (sacha peanut and google it yourself), digestive resistant tapioca fiber (which sounds painful for humans with inflammatory issues), and sunflower butter aka the overpriced not-so-nut butter most PNW co-op moms used during the crazy no peanut butter in school ban that tastes like pureed deep fried old socks and of course monk fruit as sweetener. Oh but it is chocolate lava flavored so let’s not leave out the cacao and chocolate extract that makes it oh so melt in your mouth tasty.
PROBAR – Base Protein Bar, Peanut Butter Chocolate, Non-GMO, Gluten-Free, Healthy, Plant-Based Whole Food Ingredients, Natural Energy (12 Count)
These do a decent mimic of a candy bar. There’s a lot in the ingredients which is probably why it makes a tastier bar compared to the others. Only one way to find out! ORDER NOW!
Vega 20g Protein Bar High- Plant Based, Vegetarian, Chocolate Peanut Butter, 2.5 Ounce (Pack of 12)
I thought I already reviewed this one but I think after 5 they’re all startin’ to look alike. I’m pretty sure the consensus is that everyone who likes protein bars like the chocolate peanut butter the most since every single brand makes one. It is the best two flavor combos that will mask the flavor of robot powders and goo. It’s not 100% but sometimes it comes close.
I’m not sure why it boasts that the 3g of fiber comes from real food ingredients when I’m pretty sure that goes for all fiber in food but let me know if I’m wrong. Is the digestive resistant tapioca fiber in the Pegan Protein Bar not a real food?
Oof I just noticed it’s almost 300 calories. That’s like a yummy veggie hummus wrap with a touch of cheese for me so I don’t know if I can sacrifice that wrap for a protein bar. But hey if you’re in a hurry and this bar is in your European man-bag, GO FOR IT! Your biceps will thank you.
Orgain Organic Plant Based Protein Bar, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough – Vegan, Gluten Free, Non Dairy, Soy Free, Lactose Free, Kosher, Non-GMO, 1.41 Ounce, 12 Count
Last one guys!! I mean for now. Who knows what I’ll find while perusing the aisles of amazon.com or the nearest food market ignoring all the food products and going straight for the robot fuel section.
Ah Orgain, I have a cupboard above my fridge that houses all their protein powders for my post-workout shakes. Next time I’ll have to share with you my favorite flavor shake combos. But out of convenience especially when you’re sitting in front of your computer and you just can’t stop working, can’t get up to use the bathroom or go into the kitchen to prepare a meal or a shake, this is a great bar to keep you feeling satiated. Stash a box of these under your desk. It’s freaking chocolate chip cookie dough, what more can I say? DESSERT ALL DAY LONG. You may ask, “how about that s’mores flavor?” and I’ll say “ARE YOU LISTENING??? This is the closest to a cookie dough you’ll ever see during this post-pandemic weight loss journey you’re on! Now give me 30 BURPEES and 50 SQUAT JUMPS!”
Orgain Organic Plant Based Protein + Superfoods Powder, Vanilla Bean
Ok, last last one one but not really because it’s related to the last one above. Now there are about two more containers in my cupboard because I got lazy and clicked on Amazon’s Subscribe and Save and set the delivery schedule to every two weeks instead of every four. You do get a decent discount and you can set it to arrive when you think you’re about almost out…just double check your schedule so you don’t get a new container every two weeks, unless you need it that often.
Again, this protein is vegan, no sugar added, gluten free, soy free, and non-GMO.
My favorite protein shake concoction is usually with frozen berries, any variety works for me. If I want it a little sweeter, I’d add some erythritol, or if creamier, almond-cashew milk.
